Breaking news on your right to choose
A new House of Representatives resolution calls for the FDA to overturn its new policy restricting access to bio-identical hormones.
In the April issue of Nutrition & Healing, Dr. Wright told you about the FDA’s latest attempt to take away your health care freedom of choice. This time, los Federales have set their sights on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, and, thanks to a bug put in their ear by pharmaceutical giant Wyeth, are attempting to classify estriol as an “unapproved new drug.”
As you know, estriol a major anti-carcinogenic estrogen naturally present in every woman’s body not a drug (let alone a “new, unapproved” one). And by classifying it as such and attempting to eliminate your access to it the FDA has actually broken the law (for more details on that, refer back to the April issue, which you can download for free by visiting www.wrightnewsletter.com and logging on to the Archives with the username and password listed on page 8 of your most recent newsletter).
Usually, when the FDA “bends the rules” to suit its own purposes, the rest of los Federales turn a blind eye and let it happen, despite the fact that it usually either puts the public at great risk or limits the freedom of choice guaranteed to us in the Constitution of these United States (or both).
That’s why the response to this latest power-grab is so groundbreaking.
Just last month, a group of seven members of the House of Representatives from both major political parties and six different states introduced a resolution titled House Concurrent Resolution 342 that calls for the FDA to reverse its new policy, stating that “restricting women’s access to medications containing estriol does not serve the public interest.”
Bravo to the seven politicians brave enough to stand up for what they know is right! Now it’s up to us to help them further our common cause.
Once again, it’s imperative for you to write, call, fax, and e-mail your senators and representatives right away (and continue to send them frequent reminders), letting them know that you support House Concurrent Resolution 342 and the freedom of health care choice that it represents — and they you expect them to do the same.
To find the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of your congressmen, visit the United States House of Representatives website www.house.gov. To locate contact information for your state senators, visit the senate website, www.senate.gov. For a one- stop resource for locating and writing to your representatives, visit www.congress.org (a website run by a group called Capitol Advantage).
If you don’t have access to the internet, you can find out the contact information for your state’s members of Congress by calling the United States Capitol switchboard at (202)224-3121.
And for the record, the brave members of the House of Representatives who introduced and are co-sponsors of this resolution are Reps. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.), Sam Farr (D-Calif.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), Michael Burgess (R-Texas), John Carter (R-Texas) and Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).
