Sipping your way to a longer life

Sipping your way to a longer life

Q: The health benefits of green tea have been in the news for years, but no one seems to tell you how much you need to drink to get them. Do you have any information that might shed some light on this for me?

Dr. Wright: Studies show that the more green tea you drink, the greater the benefit. Probably to have a significant effect on your longevity you would need to drink around three to four cups of green tea a day or take the equivalent as a dietary supplement.

But don’t forget that green tea does contain caffeine, so you might need to adjust your intake of caffeine from other sources if you want to get a good night’s sleep along with all of green tea’s life-extending health benefits.
