Retention prevention

Q: When I read the article in your February issue about the research concerning the cancer-preventing potential of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, I decided to try it. My experience with this therapy so far has been, for the most part, a positive one. But the one drawback I have noticed is increased water retention. Is this normal? And, if so, is there anything I can do to eliminate it?

Dr. Wright: Water retention is a common side effect of estrogen treatment of any sort and can almost always be eliminated with extra vitamin B6. Try adding 100 milligrams of vitamin B6 twice daily to your current supplement program.
