Many cosmetics and skin care products contain hazardous chemicals

We spend a lot of time thinking and talking about what we put into our bodies, but not nearly as much on what we put on them. But there are a lot of potential hazards hiding in those lotions, cremes, and cosmetics we all use on a daily basis. I came across an article recently that outlined some of the most common ingredients in these products and what risks are associated with them. Here’s a list of the top 5:

1.)Parabens: You’ll see this ingredient listed after prefixes like “butyl,” “ethyl,” and “methyl” on many skin, body, and hair products. Parabens have been linked to hormonal imbalances because they interfere with the normal functioning of the endocrine gland.

2.)Sodium lauryl sulfate: This chemical is present in almost every soap and shampoo and is responsible for the foaming action of the products. It can cause skin damage and rashes or other sensitivities.

3.)Fragrances and dyes: Their actions are self-explanatory, but the aromas and colors they impart may come at a cost. They’re a primary culprit in allergic reactions and may also have harmful effects on the immune system.

4.)Methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone: Aside from just being nearly impossible to pronounce, these chemicals also have negative effects on the immune system and can trigger allergic reactions.

5.)Triclosan and triclocarban: These chemicals are uses for their antibacterial effects, but they’ve also been associated with thyroid problems.

As I mentioned above, this list makes up just the top 5 potential hazards commonly found in skin- and hair-care products. For a much longer and more detailed list, download the free e-book Toxic Ingredients in Skin Care & Cosmetics from http://www.gonando.com/healthier-lifestyle-ebooks.html.

And, in the meantime, keep in mind that reading labels is as important for the products you put on your body as it is for the foods you put in it.
